The actions and dynamics among the three moves the father through a series of memories and interactions with his daughter and does much to illustrate their current status and how it has developed.

The characters are classic, delineated without being overwrought. The iconic references in the title are precise and fresh yet rooted in their mythological and literary sources, woven into the tale by actions and statements. This story rises to a critical level but leaves questions about what else has happened to these characters to place them in their current positions. What is said and unsaid- what is asked and unanswered? The eventual juxtaposition of phoenix and albatross is handled subtly and is well-balanced. The three characters are tantalizingly produced, evinced in a way that tells part of their story, leaving the reader to flesh out the real backstory of the three.
