Though he enjoyed international recognition in his own time, he is hardly known today, even among specialists. Now the Frick Collection presents a monographic survey of Liotards work, to accompany its exhibition of paintings, drawings, miniatures and engravings. Inspired by Trompe IOeil of 1771, which was donated to the Frick Collection in 1997 by Lore Heinemann in memory of her husband, Dr. Rudolf J. Heinemann, the exhibition includes works from the collection of the Musees dart et dhistoire in Geneva, the worlds greatest repository of Liotards oeuvre, and pastels and other works from Swiss private collections.

The catalogue provides a singular opportunity to get to know one of the most engaging artists of the Age of Enlightenment.
