The soul of her terminated son tears himself free from exile and weaving a skin of pure hatred, returning to the world to confront her. And caught between the two, Mary a woman who is torment by memories of a previous life and who slowly becomes inexplicably linked to them both. The Glass Womb is arguably D G Jones’ darkest work, relentless and surreal, it is an exploration of human suffering and self destruction, a deliberately slow and repetitive grinding novel that uses the most vile imagery and loathsome language.

Those who read it in the past were deeply disturbed both psychologically and emotionally by its content.A world away from his usual subject matter and style, The Glass Womb does not easily sit within any genre. All sides of the abortion debate are taken to an extreme, but is it really a novel about abortion, or a metaphor for something else?

Only the last few pages clarify the true nature of the book. This book should not be read. From the introduction:“I have no views on abortion, and certainly do not endorse some of the views or statements made by the characters herein. This book was written for a specific reason which I discuss in the Afterword at the end of the novel, but I must stress that it is not my wish to cause offence or upset to anyone who has been through any of the circumstances here.

Originally written 91-93, those who read it at the time reported it had a very negative effect on their psyche, and found it deeply disturbing……the novel is deliberately written in a surrealistic way, with minimal dialogue and a sentence structure which is bland and repetitive, The Glass Womb is a dirge rather than a novel, crawling to the final conclusion which completely reverses everything that has gone before in its torturous pages.

It is a bleak dark nightmare of intense suffering and misery, and I strongly recommend that it is to be avoided, so upsetting is much of the content. It is a study of destruction, hatred and self-loathing and I publish it now only because it completes the archive.” D G Jones, 01/08/14.Website:www.theflayedprince.co.uk
